Voices for Nicholls Calls for Candidates

Regional leaders are being urged to consider a tilt at Federal politics by the Voices for
Nicholls group seeking to challenge the Nationals incumbent.

Voices for Nicholls spokesperson, Elizabeth Tregenza, says the efforts of independent
candidate Rob Priestly at the last election, which saw the electorate swing from one of the
historically safest conservative seats in the country to a margin of just 599 votes, have set
the scene for electoral showdown if the right candidate can be found.

“This is an historically significant moment for our region and we are putting a call out for
exceptional community members to step forward and throw their hat in the ring for
consideration as the Voices of Nicholls endorsed candidate’’, Ms Tregenza said.

“Now is the time for the people of Nicholls to build on the momentum created by Rob Priestly
and put forward a candidate that would spell an end to years of Federal neglect."

“We have seen the success off the Independents in driving a new form of democracy in
Australia lead by the people rather than party power brokers."

“We have also seen how little can be achieved as a junior member of a secondary party in a
Coalition opposition,” she said.

“Our region desperately needs the Federal investment that it has missed out on for so long
for roads, housing, health, education and water and climate adaptation".

“An election could be called any moment and this might be the best chance we get for a very
long time to make the people of Nicholls count.’’
